How much does a website cost in South Africa in 2026?
There is no single price for a website in South Africa. A site can cost next to nothing or tens of thousands of rand, and the difference is not always visible on the screen. This guide explains what actually drives the price, so you can compare quotes fairly and know what you are paying for.
What changes the price of a website
Five things move the price more than anything else. If a quote does not mention them, ask.
- Number of pages. A five-page site (home, about, services, gallery, contact) takes far less work than a twenty-page one with product or area pages.
- Custom design or a template. A template is a ready-made layout with your logo and words dropped in. Custom design means the pages are laid out around your business, your customers and what you sell.
- Features. A gallery, a booking form, a quote request or an online shop each add real build time.
- Photos and video. Good imagery is often what makes a site feel expensive. If you do not have it, someone has to make or source it.
- SEO. SEO (search engine optimisation) is how a site is set up so Google understands what you do and where. Basic set-up and thorough set-up are very different jobs.
The usual options, in plain terms
Do it yourself
Website builders let you make a site yourself for a low monthly fee. The money cost is small. The real cost is your time, and the result usually looks like everybody else's site. It can be a fair start for a very small business with more time than budget.
A freelancer or a template site
Prices vary a lot, from a few thousand rand upward. Quality varies just as much, so look at work they have actually done and ask who will fix the site if something breaks.
A design studio
A studio designs the site around your business and usually handles design, build and SEO together. This is where our packages sit. Studio prices differ widely, so always compare what is included, not only the total.
What our packages cost
These are our prices. Other studios will charge differently, so use this as one reference point and not a rule for the whole market.
After launch you can add a Care plan if you want us to keep the site updated and looked after: Care is R500 a month and Care Plus is R1,200 a month. Extras are priced up front too: an extra page is R700, we can write a page for R350, a logo tidy-up is R900 and an extra video is R2,500. Every package includes a brand kit: your logo files, colours, fonts and how to use them.
What is not always included
This is where cheap quotes become expensive. Before you say yes, ask in writing about:
- Who writes the words, and whether that costs extra.
- Whether photos and video are included or you must supply them.
- Domain name and hosting. These are separate costs at many studios, so ask who pays and who owns them.
- What happens after launch: who makes changes, and what they cost.
- Whether the site is built to load fast on a phone. Most South African customers look on their phones first.
How we handle payment
We keep it simple. You pay a 50% deposit to start, the build takes one to two weeks (Premium can take a little longer), and you pay the other 50% before launch. Payment is by EFT. Before any of that, you can see a free preview of what your site could look like, so you are not paying for a guess.
How to choose the right budget
- Decide what the site must do: get calls, take bookings, show your work or sell products.
- Count the pages that job needs. Do not pay for twenty pages if five will do.
- Ask for a fixed price in writing with the list of what is included.
- Look at finished sites on your phone, not only on a computer.
- Start with the package that does the job today. A site can be extended later.
If you already have a website, send us the link. We start from what you have and show you how it could be built better, before you spend anything.
